Species: Davallia heterophylla
Common name(s):
Native to: Thailand and Vietnam
Temperature preferences: Warm to cool growing
Water preferences: Medium to high moisture
Terrestrial or Epiphytic: Epiphytic
General Information and Care: Davallia heterophylla is a very striking species. The leaves have a texture that is hard to compare to any other commonly offered terrarium plants. In addition to the sterile fronds having a beautiful texture, the fertile fronds are lobed. This characteristic makes them easily distinguishable from the sterile fronds. Additionally, the new sterile leaves are pink when they are first produced and gradually change to a dark green. The rhizomes are skinny and dark brown, covered in fine hairs. This species does best as an epiphyte, preferably on tree fern fiber or virgin cork bark.
