General Information and Care: Pilea sp. 'Purple Ecuador' is a great medium to fast growing plant that does superb in a terrarium. This is a relatively new species to the hobby, but really adds some wonderful contrast to an other green terrarium. The leaves are a dark maroon when mature and a bright red when they first emerge. The leaf margins also add some very nice contrast to many other leaf textures present in most terrariums. This will also frequently flower, however they are not large showy flowers, they are held very close to the plant and look like a brown cotton ball.
