General Information and Care: Biophytum sp. Large is another great Biophytum that Glass Box Tropicals offers. Many people love this species due to the unique appearance which is often compared to a miniature palm tree. This unique appearance is what really makes it stand out in any terrarium. This species does prefer to be very moist to wet though, and especially have its roots in a wet substrate. In the wild it is usually found growing in a marshy/boggy area, or directly next to streams or waterfalls where there is constant moisture. This is a species that gets larger and can get up to or over 12" in diameter when mature. The blooms will open intermittently throughout the year. It is possible to harvest seeds from this species and germinate them.
*At night the leaves of this species will fold up. Do not be alarmed if you look at night and see them like this, it is a characteristic of this plant. The leaves may also do this when the plant is stressed. If when receiving this plant, the leaves are closed, simply just plant it and allow it to adjust and they will reopen.
