General Information and Care: Goodyera hispida is a Jewel Orchid that is especially well suited for growing in a terrarium. This species appreciates a moist to wet media to grow in. Also, it likes medium to low light making it a great understory plant. G. hispida only blooms once a year with a 4-12" tall flower stalk covered in small white and yellow flowers. However, the foliage is what really appeals to many people. The leaves are similar to Macodes petola excpet they are a darker color and smaller. If the leaves begin to show a lot of pale red color, they are receiving too much light. This is typically not an issue in most terrariums though.
