General Information and Care: Ludisia discolor is a Jewel Orchid that is especially well suited for growing in a terrarium. This species appreciates a moist to wet media to grow in. Also, it likes medium to low light making it a great understory plant. L. discolor only blooms once a year with a 4-12" tall flower stalk covered in small white and yellow flowers. However, the foliage is what really appeals to many people. The leaves are a dark green to almost dark red appearing leaves with bright red lateral lines. The stems are also a gorgeous red color that adds even more interest to this species. If the leaves begin to show a lot of pale red color, they are receiving too much light. This is typically not an issue in most terrariums though.
